Founded amid the exuberance of the California Gold Rush, Congregation Sherith Israel has welcomed the Jews of San Francisco and beyond since 1851. The dramatic and historic sanctuary, with its glorious stained glass windows, hand painted frescoes, burnished woodwork and Murray Harris organ, occupies the entire second level of the synagogue.
