The pairing of guitarist Russell Malone and pianist Cyrus Chestnut
is an inspired combination. “Russell Malone brings new meaning
to the term versatility, whether he's playing a down-home, gut-bucket
blues or a lush, melodic ballad," said pianist Billy Taylor
on his syndicated NPR show. That same stylistic flexibility marks
Chestnut’s career as a sideman for the likes of Dizzy Gillespie
and Betty Carter, and as the leader of his acclaimed trio.
A graduate of Chestnut’s alma mater, Boston’s Berklee
College of Music, guitarist-vocalist Lionel Loueke is well known
for his work in trumpeter Terence Blanchard's band. "Lionel
is an amazing guitarist," said Herbie Hancock, his boss
in the Headhunters ‘05. "He's like a musical painter
and full of surprises."
