  • “The Philly dynasty [of the Heath Brothers] is what you want to hear—family values with fire, yet cooler than cool.” —Village Voice

“Keeping the swing faith with a time-honored groove” (Chicago Tribune), the great brothers Heath—Jimmy on tenor sax and Albert (a.k.a. “Tootie”) on drums—celebrate Jimmy’s 80-year milestone on the Festival stage, joined by rising-star trumpeter Jeremy Pelt. Together, Jimmy and Tootie have more than a century in the jazz limelight to their credit, counting as peers and collaborators such immortals as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Miles Davis. But don’t expect them to rest on their laurels—as New York’s Newsday wrote: “The Heaths of Philadelphia are true jazz blue-bloods, [but] it’s when these elder statesmen get together that they become rambunctious, playful kids, making mischief in bebop’s backyard.” Read Program Notes
