“Swingin’ on the Bay Brunch Cruise”
Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers;
Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums
Sunday, October 22 • 11am
$90 GA includes brunch
“[Lavay Smith is] a living testament to the jump-blues
era.” —Jazziz
Scenic views, swingin’ tunes, and a sumptuous brunch aboard
a luxury yacht…that winning combination can only mean
one thing: the return of the Festival’s perennially popular
“Swingin’ on the Bay” cruise. This year’s
musical roster includes SF’s one-and-only “Queen
of Swing,” Lavay Smith, joined as always by her band
of Bay Area swing all-stars, the Red Hot Skillet Lickers. In
the words of renowned bandleader Johnny Otis, Lavay and the
boys are “a
breath of fresh air.” Sharing the bill is another band
of Bay Area swing stalwarts, Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums
(featuring Miss Carmen Getit), who bring “superior musicianship”
(Down Beat) to a red-hot repertoire of jump blues, classic
jazz, and other sounds inspired by the music of the ’30s,
’40s, and ’50s.
