  • "The good Doctor Smith...can claim to be the current innovator, tastemaker and genuine link between past and present." — BBC

Ninth in a series of deep-grooving, hard-boogying organ blowouts, this year the Hammond B-3 Organ swings across the generations. Since his debut album in 1967, Dr. Lonnie Smith has been a standard bearer on his B-3. His latest album, Too Damn Hot, packs forty-years of experience playing everything from hard bop to Hendrix into a session that, if anything, is named too timidly. Accompanied by trombonist Fred Wesley, a linchpin of James Brown's legendary funk band the JB's, the good Doctor is sure to deliver a smokin' set.

Better known for his “Lester Young-like virtuosity” (Billboard) and versatility on anything with a reed, on 2004’s Live at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge James Carter proved he’s just as comfortable tearing the roof off the joint. As AllAboutJazz.com wrote, “for those who don’t know him – or his illustrious associates -- this is as painless an entry into their audacious world as you’re apt to find.” Read Program Notes
