From bebop to hip-hop, New York pianist Marc Cary is a fearless musical explorer with a gift for leading adventurous ensembles. He first gained attention with Roy Hargrove, but made his name as a bandleader with the percussion-driven combo Indigenous People. In constant demand as an accompanist, Cary has collaborated with an impressive array of jazz and R&B artists, from Meshell Ndegeocello and Erykah Badu to Betty Carter, Milt Jackson and Max Roach. Cary’s current vision is to unite East Indian, West African and Native American musical traditions in an all-acoustic setting. He does just that with his Focus Trio, a potent band featuring the exceptional Bay Area rhythm tandem of bassist David Ewell and Sameer Gupta on drums and tabla.

“As a pianist, Mr. Cary…is onto something important.” the new york times
