meeting of the minds
Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain & Edgar Meyer
tuesday, may 25, 7:30PM
Palace of Fine Arts Theatre
NOTE: This concert was originally scheduled for October 28, 2009. Limited seating is now available.
A harmonic convergence of virtuosity, this singular event brings together a triumvirate of genre-bending masters. Marin-based Zakir Hussain is the world’s most celebrated tabla player, a legend whose intrepid collaborations with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, John McLaughlin and Mickey Hart have opened up new musical realms. Steeped in jazz, funk and bluegrass, banjo star Béla Fleck explores everything from Bach to West African griot incantations when not touring with his hugely popular Flecktones. And Edgar Meyer is a bass visionary who has continually expanded the range of his instrument. More than a trio, this is a meeting of musical minds that rivals any “supergroup” in jazz history. “What Béla Fleck has done with, and for, the banjo is…alchemy.” the washington post “India’s most famous percussionist, Zakir Hussain…has been at the helm of some of contemporary music’s most eminent and influential ensembles.” the new york times “Edgar Meyer is a bass virtuoso of extraordinary gifts.” san francisco chronicle |
