More than just a towering figure in India, sitar legend Ravi Shankar is a consummate ambassador who has played a leading role in the introduction of Indian music to countries throughout the world since the 1940s. His unsurpassed rhythmic sophistication and melodic inventiveness turn every performance into a transcendent experience. At 89, he has lost none of his power, though we recognize this may be one of the last opportunities to see the maestro perform in the Bay Area. Shankar shares the stage with one of the most promising sitar stars, his 28-year-old daughter. Anoushka Shankar has emerged as one of the leading world music artists today, with several recordings and Grammy® Award nominations to her credit. Her collaborations with artists including Thievery Corporation and Karsh Kale are bringing Indian music to an entirely new audience. “Ravi Shankar is the Godfather of world music” George Harrison “To me, his genius and his humanity can only be compared to that of Mozart.” Yehudi Menuhin |
