Fela Kuti might be long gone, but the Afrobeat revolution he fomented in the 1970s is going stronger than ever. In the Bay Area, the SF Music Award-winning band Albino! mans the Afrobeat barricades, offering sweaty inspiration with its relentless grooves. The 10-piece ensemble has won a passionate following with its combustible stage shows thick with driving percussion, heavy-duty horns, African dance and tripped-out tribal garb. A favorite on the festival circuit and at Burning Man, Albino! honors the crusading spirit central to Fela’s legacy.
