With its members selected via competitive
auditions each year, the SFJAZZ High School
All-Stars represents the highest caliber of young
jazz musicians from the Bay Area. Performing in
small group and 19-piece big band formats, the
All-Stars will highlight the music of piano legend
McCoy Tyner, as well as
original compositions.
And for this concert,
pro-level drummer Eric
Harland (of the SFJAZZ
Collective) will be the
band’s special guest.
Founded and directed by Dr. Dee Spencer, one of the Bay Area’s leading jazz educators, the HSAS program is widely renowned. Since 2001, five All-Star students have also made the Grammy® All-American Jazz Ensemble; four have received ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Awards; and the All-Stars as a group has received a stunning 30 DownBeat Student Music Awards.

"The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars are some of
the most talented and committed young players
I’ve ever had a chance to work with. They’re
setting the standard for all the young big
