Since the release of his landmark
1997 album Nashville, Grammy®
award-winning guitarist Bill Frisell’s
epic sojourn through America’s musical
heartland has produced a series of
luminous, often haunting soundscapes.
A brilliant, dauntingly prolific and
uncategorizable improviser, Frisell introduces
his latest investigation into the
American soul with Musical Portraits from Heber Springs: Bill Frisell’s
Disfarmer Project, featuring a band
of longtime collaborators. Inspired by
Mike Disfarmer’s arresting photographs
that document the lives of his neighbors
in rural Arkansas circa 1939-45,
Frisell provides a vibrant, sympathetic
score for large-scale projections of
Disfarmer’s revelatory images, weaving
together incisive original compositions
and reimagined vintage songs in this
unique Bay Area appearance.
"Frisell is a revered figure among
musicians—like Miles Davis and
few others, his signature is built
from pure sound and inflection."
