Kayhan Kalhor is Iran’s foremost musical
ambassador, a master of Persian classical
music determined to bridge the gap between
East and West. A virtuoso on the kamancheh
(spiked Persian violin), Kalhor’s latest
masterpiece is documented on the World
Village album Silent City, featuring an
extraordinary collaboration with the fearless
young string quartet Brooklyn Rider. The
founder of the celebrated Masters of Persian
Music ensemble, Kalhor has also toured and
recorded internationally with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk
Road Project and his haunting sound appeared
in Francis Ford Coppolla’s 2007 film Youth
Without Youth. This is “world chill” at its
absolute folkloric best.
