Before “world music” there was Hugh Masekela, the iconic South African trumpeter whose blazing chops, groove-driven sound and activist spirit powered hits like “Grazing in the Grass” and “Mandela.” He will perform his classic repertoire along with material from his new Times Square release, Phola. This special performance will celebrate the living legend’s 70th birthday with a liberating evening of “freedom” music.
"One heck of an entertainer…soulful, playful, romantic, joyous and inspirational by turns."
