The New York jazz scene is continually
invigorated by a steady flow of talent from
the Bay Area, but the arrival of violinist Jenny
Scheinman in 1999 provided a particularly
potent creative jolt. A supremely versatile
musician, Scheinman has thrived in the Big
Apple, collaborating with a dizzying array
of artists including Bill Frisell, Lucinda
Williams, Madeleine Peyroux, Willie Nelson
and Nels Cline. As a bandleader, her stylistic
palette is no less diverse. Last year she released
two albums simultaneously on Koch, the
beautifully crafted instrumental session Crossing the Field, featuring Frisell and pianist
Jason Moran, and the self-named vocal debut
exploring Americana fare from her rural
Northern California childhood. Scheinman’s
unpredictable talent promises a unique
musical journey.

center of jazz’s string renaissance."
