  • Whether you are a jazz veteran or attending a jazz concert for the first time, your listening experience will be enhanced by these classes. SFJAZZ Director of Education Dmitri Matheny takes you right into the heart of the music, illuminating each instrument's role in setting the tempo, establishing the harmony, stating the melody, and observing the form in modern jazz. Matheny and different celebrity guests will survey the distinctive styles of artists from jazz history, as well as those appearing in the ’'06 Spring Season.

    SFJAZZ offers a fascinating new series of classes exploring the use of modern jazz in film noir through screenings of rare and archival film clips with insightful commentary by critics and historians. SFJAZZ will present a Jazz/Noir Film Festival, May 19–21, in conjunction with this new class.
