Whether you are a jazz veteran or attending a jazz concert for
the first time, your listening experience will be enhanced by
these classes. SFJAZZ Director of Education Dmitri Matheny takes
you right into the heart of the music, illuminating each instrument's
role in setting the tempo, establishing the harmony, stating the
melody, and observing the form in modern jazz. Matheny and different
celebrity guests will survey the distinctive styles of artists
from jazz history, as well as those appearing in the ’'06
Spring Season.
.
SFJAZZ offers a fascinating new series of classes exploring the
use of modern jazz in film noir through screenings of rare and
archival film clips with insightful commentary by critics and
historians. SFJAZZ will present a Jazz/Noir
Film Festival, May 19–21, in conjunction with
this new class.
Presented in association with the Jewish Community Center of San
Francisco and the Film Noir Foundation.
