a nonprofit presenter of jazz artistic and education programs

SFJAZZ, the largest non-profit jazz presenter on the West coast, is also a year-round education organization that offers a dynamic and innovative array of artistic and educational programs in the concert hall, classroom and community. From our middle school program, Jazz in the Middle, to our Discover Jazz course for adult enthusiasts, SFJAZZ is committed to encouraging the growth of jazz and the development of jazz audiences for people of all ages.

Since 1983, SFJAZZ has endeavored to grow the jazz audience, build appreciation for jazz musicians, and increase understanding of historically significant artists and eras.

Concerts are our single most powerful educational tool. Through the creative combination of artists, venues and concert themes, along with scholarly publications and online resources, SFJAZZ fulfills its mission: to celebrate and nurture the art form, while developing its audience.

Over the years, as our major concert seasons have grown in size and prestige, we have introduced additional artistic and educational offerings, including youth programs (since 1984), films (since 1985), commissions of new work (since 1986), in-school programs (since 1987), recording (since 1988), dance (since 1989), and adult education (since 1990).

SFJAZZ serves thousands of adults and youth in communities across the Bay Area with a dynamic and innovative array of educational programs in the concert hall, classroom, and community.
