Kiran Ahluwalia

Winner of two JUNO awards, the Canadian GRAMMYs, star Indo-Canadian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia is a modern proponent of the great vocal traditions of India and Pakistan, which she honors while exploring bold new territories. An artist possessed of a transcendent instrument and an ability to seamlessly integrate influences from around the globe, Ahluwalia creates a heady hybrid of Indian grooves, Saharan Blues and Western Jazz that delivers a blueprint for a borderless world. Music was central to the singer's life from an early age. After a decade of intensive study with legendary Indian vocalist Vithal Rao, Ahluwalia emerged as a mature and self-assured artist, releasing a string of albums that rocketed her to worldwide acclaim including the JUNO-winning 2003 CD Beyond Boundries. The musically omnivorous singer has made a career of expanding the Indian vocal tradition beyond musical and geographic borders, collaborating with artists including the Chicago Sinfonietta, Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq, and electronic pop groups Delerium and Eccodeck. Her latest release, Sannata : Stillness, is a fresh synthesis of Indian, western jazz and Saharan sounds featuring guitar master Rez Abbasi.
