Calder Quartet w/ Iva Bittová
Calder Quartet with Iva Bittová
Over three incredible evenings, one of the most acclaimed ensembles in contemporary classical music presents the complete cycle of string quartets by legendary Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, joined by special guests. Known for their exceptional range of musical mastery across multiple genres and generations of repertoire, the Calder Quartet has commissioned over 25 works by today’s most notable composers including Terry Riley, Christopher Rouse and Thomas Adès, and shared the stage with adventurous rock and pop acts The National and The Airborne Toxic Event. During the course of their three-night engagement spread over three months, the quartet will tackle all six of Bartok’s iconic quartets – easily some of the most influential quartet music composed in the 20th century, inspiring composers such as Benjamin Britten, Elliott Carter, György Ligeti, and countless others.
Violinist Iva Bittová joins the Calder Quartet for their second night dedicated to the quartet cycle of composer Béla Bartók. A wildly inventive artist working in the avant-garde and jazz, Bittová brings a striking new dimension to the Calder Quartet.
