25th Anniversary SFJAZZ Gala
Honoring Wayne Shorter
May 16, 2008

We are pleased to announce the 25th Anniversary Gala to be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at The Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. The Gala will honor legendary saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master, Wayne Shorter in his 75th birthday year and will feature performances by the SFJAZZ Collective, members of the SJAZZ All-Star High School ensemble, and special musical guests.

The 25th Anniversary SFJAZZ Gala offers music-lovers the chance to celebrate with some of the world’s most accomplished jazz musicians in a benefit for the artistic and education programs of SFJAZZ.

The Artists

Wayne Shorter

A nine-time Grammy-winning artist, Wayne Shorter has recorded 25 albums as a leader and his prolific career includes work with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis, Weather Report, Carlos Santana, Don Henley, and numerous projects with Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock, including the 2007 release River: The Joni Letters.

SFJAZZ Collective

The SFJAZZ Collective tours nationally and internationally to major concert halls throughout the US, Europe, and Asia and recently won Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll as the “Rising Star Jazz Group of the Year."

SFJAZZ High School All-Stars

The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars are the leading young jazz musicians from the Bay Area, and the group was recently named to the “Top 20 Under 40” list by 7X7 Magazine.

The Evening

The 25th Anniversary SFJAZZ Gala begins with a welcome reception featuring culinary delights and signature cocktails, along with bidding on an exclusive array of silent auction packages. A sumptuous seated dinner will follow, with guests enjoying live musical performances. With jazz being the music of improvisation, the evening caps off with what has become a highlight of our annual event: The SFJAZZ After Party, a lively postlude with a delectable dessert buffet, coffees and cordials, dancing, and spontaneous performances.

SFJAZZ is celebrating 25 years of jazz presenting and jazz education and the 25th Anniversary Gala is sure to be a popular affair attracting 400-500 guests. Previous events have sold out and raised over $250,000 annually for jazz programs.
