Thanks to our devoted SFJAZZ supporters, The Real McCoy: 2009 SFJAZZ Gala held on Saturday, April 25th at The Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco was an extraordinary event. We witnessed once-in-a-lifetime performances by three generations of unbelievable musicians, while raising over $300,000 in support of SFJAZZ artistic and education programs. By every account, it was a colossal success! With the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars, the SFJAZZ Collective, and true jazz masters McCoy Tyner and Bobby Hutcherson taking the stage, we saw in action all that SFJAZZ represents: respect for the history of jazz; celebration of where it lives today; and a constant search for the next waves of musical expression. And everyone who stayed on for the After-Jam with Joe Louis Walker left with a huge smile on his or her face. It was a Gala experience we will long remember — one that paid great tribute to this living, ever-relevant American art form. We’re already looking forward to next year. We will have more information about the 2010 Gala in the coming months. Here are a few reviews for the April 2009 event:
We’ve prepared a concert photo gallery to keep the memories swinging just a little longer.
