The core of any jazz band from the swing era to today, the rhythm section – piano or guitar, bass and drums - provides lift, context, rhythm, and harmony, establishing the foundation for the great soloists to make evolving, spontaneous compositions.
In class one, we'll take a close look at the ever-evolving rhythm section, from the modern greats, to the historical giants, focusing in on some of the most influential players like Elvin Jones, and celebrating some unsung heroes like Mark Dresser.
