Marc Ribot: Los Cubanos Postizos
Los Cubanos Postizos
Easily one of the most audience beloved and critically acclaimed Latin-rock bands of the last two decades, Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos (The Prosthetic Cubans) originally came together to perform fresh arrangements of the music written by pioneering Cuban bandleader and composer Arsenio Rodríguez. An infectious, groove-heavy ensemble balancing traditional rhythms with the leader’s stinging, fuzz-drenched guitar leads, Los Cubanos Postizos will have the crowd off their feet and dancing in the aisles. Releasing two superb Atlantic Records CDs, 1998’s The Prosthetic Cubans and 2000’s ¡Muy Divertido!, the band toured extensively and racked up accolades worldwide before becoming inactive after the turn of the century. To the delight of fans around the globe, Ribot has reformed the group due to popular demand, with original members Anthony Coleman on keyboards, bassist Brad Jones and percussionist E.J. Rodriguez augmented by multi-dexterous drumming marvel Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. For this performance in Miner Auditorium, the band is joined by guitarist and vocalist David Hidalgo, co-founder of the seminal Los Angeles Chicano rock band, Los Lobos. Hidalgo and Ribot collaborated on the triumphant Border Music project last fall, and this reunion promises be a Latin-rock dance party of the first order.
