Inside the Cuban Rhythm Section w/ Carlos Del Puerto
Inside the Cuban Rhythm Section
Legendary bassist and Irakere co-founder Carlos Del Puerto is one of the most important figures in the post-modern era of Cuban music. From Irakere’s historic 1979 Grammy win to international tours and dozens of recordings, Del Puerto has spent years documenting and sharing the history and performance practice of his native Cuban music.
In this hands-on masterclass for rhythm section instrumentalists including bassists, pianists and percussionists, Del Puerto will lead musicians on an in-depth exploration of Cuban rhythm - from the son stylings of the 1930s to the post-modern funk-infused timba.
Live demonstration of numerous styles will be performed by Del Puerto along with pianist Rebeca Mauleón and Cuban percussionists Jesús Diaz and Carlos Caro, who will guide students in interpreting these exciting and complex rhythms.
Must be an intermediate to advanced-level bassist, pianist or percussionist. Some instruments provided, but bassists must bring their own bass.
