Indian Tabla Master Class w/ Zakir Hussain

Master musician and tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain is one of the foremost percussionists in jazz and world music, known for his genre-crossing collaborations with everyone from Mickey Hart, John McLaughlin and Pharoah Sanders to Van Morrison, George Harrison, and YoYo Ma. Celebrated as a national treasure in his native India, Hussain has simultaneously upheld the wealth of classical Indian music while innovating within it, expanding boundaries and garnering numerous awards and accolades in his prolific career. In this very special master class for intermediate to advanced level percussionists, Hussain will share his vast knowledge of Indian rhythms as well as the techniques involved in singing the bols, the language of rhythm. Students will also learn to transcribe patterns onto their own drums and will gain insight into the art of Indian style improvisation. Don’t miss this extremely rare opportunity to study with a true master of world drumming!

Drummers and percussionists are encouraged to bring their own tabla and hand drums, and some instruments will be available. This master class is ideal for intermediate to advanced level musicians.
