Tickets for the 24th San Francisco Jazz Festival go on sale this weekend — exclusively to SFJAZZ Members. The fall schedule features “Saxophone Colossus” Sonny Rollins (10.20); pianist Alice Coltrane (11.4) at the helm of a jazz super group featuring her son Ravi (sax), and jazz legends Charlie Haden (bass) and Roy Haynes (drums); a special pre-Festival concert by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and his Grammy-winning Planet Drum percussion showcase (9.23); and much, much more! This incendiary four-week celebration of jazz is “one of America’s premier cultural events” (Los Angeles Times).

Tickets at every price level are available to Members through the SFJAZZ box office, open extended hours this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Members can also order online and, beginning Saturday at 10 am, by phone at 415.788.7353. Members can pre-order tickets online at any time, and their purchases will be processed in the order received after the Box Office opens this Saturday.

Tickets to the general public go onsale two weeks later — on Sunday, July 23. However, non-members still have time to take advantage of membership benefits like priority ticket sales and no service charges by joining today! With festival brochures in the mail and the complete schedule online at SFJAZZ.org, now’s the time to book your calendar for “the crown jewel among American jazz festivals” (Chicago Tribune).

The trivia contest returns – just in time for the SFJAZZ Members’ advance ticket-sales period! Here’s this week’s question:

Which headlining artist playing at this fall’s Festival also performed at 1983’s inaugural Jazz in the City Festival (the precursor to the San Francisco Jazz Festival)?

The 3rd person to e-mail us the correct answer will receive a free Stanford Summer Jazz sampler CD featuring tracks by Bay Area jazz luminaries Lavay Smith, Kim Nalley, Dave Ellis, and Taylor Eigsti.

Email Your Answer (include "Jazz in the City" in the subject line of your email)

The fine print: Our contest winner will be notified directly by email, and both the winner’s name and the correct answer to the question will be published in next week’s e-News. The following are not eligible to enter: employees and current contractors of SFJAZZ and its seasonal sponsors; past e-News Jazz Trivia Contest winners.
