Next week, SFJAZZ Collective and Spring Season artistic director Joshua Redman will join Discover Jazz instructor Cory Combs to teach “Jazz History: 1950 Through the Present.” The survey of the post-bop era will touch on the dizzying half-century of jazz innovation, from hard bop, to modal jazz, all the way up through fusion and the rise of today's scene toppers.

Discover Jazz classes are a great way for jazz fans, new and old, to gain a deeper appreciation for the rich legacy of jazz. Each class features an entertaining overview of the subject matter along with pertinent musical examples. Tickets are going fast for Redman's special appearance so sign up now .

Lovano To Join Redman

In further Redman news, Joshua will be joined at his June 2 trio performance by tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, whom The New York Times praises as “one of the greatest musicians in jazz history.”
