The Eighth Annual SFJAZZ
Spring Season’s
opening weekend sets the stage for four months of innovative, eclectic, and powerful
music.
The double bill of Jerry
Gonzalez & the
Fort Apache Band and pianist Omar Sosa fire
up the Palace of Fine Arts Friday night, March 9, with a red-hot mix of border-crossing
Latin grooves. The following night, Masonic Center hosts the “sexy, brash, and streetwise” (The
New York Times)
Etta James and a solo set by Bay Area bluesman Joe
Louis Walker.
And Saturday, March 11, the all-star SFJAZZ Collective returns to S.F. with
its all-new repertoire of original compositions and arrangements of Thelonious
Monk.

Congratulations to Steve Foster, who knew that Etta James’ & the
Peaches first hit, “The Wallflower (Dance With Me, Henry)” originally had the
racier title “Roll
With Me, Henry.” He’s keeping warm under the stylish SFJAZZ
Beanie! |
