Following a rigorous two days of auditions September 8 & 9, 22 of the Bay Area's finest high school jazz musicians were selected to take part in the 2007-2008 SFJAZZ High School All-Stars. Jazz classes back in session

In addition to acclaimed youth education programs like the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars (see left), SFJAZZ hosts a number of informal yet enriching educational programs for adults. The Discover Jazz class (running through October 8) breaks down the rudiments of jazz with listening examples, video clips, and live in-class performances, while Pre-Concert Talks take jazz fans inside the music through compelling, spontaneous conversations.

 // IN MEMORIAM - JOE ZAWINUL (1924-2007)

Joe ZawinulLegendary jazz keyboardist Joe Zawinul passed away on September 11 at the age of 75. The London Guardian obitiuary calls Zawinul "one of a handful of people who changed the way music sounds. As a composer, jazz keyboardist, bandleader and hit-maker, he put his stamp on five decades of music."
