Third World Love

Before attaining his current position in the SFJAZZ Collective, Israeli trumpeter Avishai Cohen was a founding member of Third World Love, a genre-expanding quartet mixing African and Middle Eastern influences with the jazz tradition. Assembled in Barcelona specifically for a single tour, their chemistry was immediate and undeniable, and the group soon became firmly established. Beginning with 2002’s debut Third World Love Songs, the band has recorded five increasingly accomplished albums, including 2004’s Avenim, the joyously expansive Sketch of Tel Aviv in 2006, the stupendous New Blues in 2007, and their brand new release, Songs and Portraits. Featuring pianist Yonatan Avishai, bassist Omer Avital and drummer Daniel Freedman, the band celebrates their 10th year with this riveting performance. Please join us for a special evening with one of the most arresting and original groups on the international jazz scene.

Remember to come early for a pre-concert talk with acclaimed clarinetist, saxophonist and Israeli JazzFest artistic director Anat Cohen, one hour before show time.
