Associate Director, Individual Giving
JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Director, Individual Giving is responsible for the design and implementation of giving strategies for all Leaders Circle donors, including donor cultivation and stewardship, marketing, benchmarking, and budget management. The Associate Director, Individual Giving will steward their own portfolio of major gift donors, and support organizational leadership in the cultivation of their portfolios. He/she directly supervises three Major Gifts Officers and works collegially with other staff across the organization. Success requires the motivation to communicate Leaders Circle opportunities internally and externally while creating a strong vision with donors of the impact that their investment will have on jazz.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Associate Director, Individual Giving reports to the Director of Development and supervises three Major Gifts Officers. Effectively, this role will serve as the number two team member in the Development Department. In addition to working closely with the Director of Development (DoD), the Associate Director, Individual Giving will have consistent collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, the organization’s Founder, Executive Artistic Director, and members of its Board of Trustees.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Functions as the lead strategic thought partner for the DoD for strategy and messaging for Individual Giving
- Develops and oversees acquisition, retention, and stewardship strategies for the Leaders Circle program, including work plans
- Ensures the Leaders Circle program sets aggressive targets and leads the Major Gifts Team to raise $2 million or more annually
- Facilitates regular strategy meetings using moves management techniques to secure meaningful gifts and build relationships
- Manages a portfolio of at least 100 high-capacity Leaders Circle Members with a focus on gifts of $10,000+ annually, including personal solicitation of annual fund, Gala, designated, and/or endowment campaign gifts
- Identifies and cultivates at least 20 prospects from civic and arts philanthropic communities capable of giving at least $10,000 annually
- Partners with the DoD and Major Gifts Officers to expand the Legacy Circle program, building relationships with current Members, identifying new prospects for planned gift solicitation, and soliciting prospective donors
- Supports CEO in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of their designated prospects for annual fund and campaign goals
- Supports the DoD’s leadership of the Development Committee and supports committee members in their assignments
- Performs donor and prospect research, serving as the administrator of research tools
- Tracks cultivation and stewardship activities for portfolio in the Tessitura database
- Represents SFJAZZ in the concert halls, in the community, and at donor events
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Conceives and manages mail and email campaigns to upgrade, renew, reinstate, and acquire Leaders Circle donors
- Writes appeals, proposals, reports, cultivation and stewardship communications, and correspondence
- Works closely with the Special Events Team to design and execute 10-15 stewardship and cultivation events annually for Leaders Circle Members and prospects
- Oversees and participates in the fulfillment of Leaders Circle benefits and recognition, including Concert Sponsors and Underwriters
- Collaborates with the Membership and Donor Services Manager to ensure coordination and continuity of messaging across individual giving, and to develop strategies and systems for identifying prospects and upgrading Members into the Leaders Circle
- Facilitates monthly Development communications strategy meetings, and collaborates with Manager of Development Systems and Communications to create Development communications calendar
- Collaborates with Marketing to create marketing and fundraising materials, including brochures, direct mail, and more
SUPERVISORY AND ADMINISTRATIVE
- Supervises, mentors, trains, and supports the professional development of three Major Gifts Officers
- Develops annual budget projections, and reforecasts during quarterly close and year-end
- Other projects as assigned
