Audio Engineer
OVERVIEW
The SFJAZZ Audio Engineer provides audio support to SFJAZZ Artistic, Education and Rentals performances and events under the direction of the Director of Production and the Technical Director. This position requires the engineer be familiar with the entire audio lifecycle of a live production.
The Audio Engineer is responsible for managing and operating a variety of audio systems within the SFJAZZ Center including a Meyer line array, remote monitoring system and speaker configuration software, digital consoles, analog systems, patching infrastructure and a Pro Tools system. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Lead Audio Engineer, Director of Production and the Technical Director on house audio system maintenance.
This individual should also have a strong knowledge of the post-production workflow, as it relates to audio, and will provide mixing and mastering support for SFJAZZ Digital Projects, as needed.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Operate FOH and Monitor consoles as well as related audio equipment for SFJAZZ Artistic, Rental, Education and Development performances and events at the SFJAZZ Center, up to four evenings per week
- Maintain audio mixing standards and the reputation of the SFJAZZ Center while creating the optimal acoustical experience for artists, patrons and rental clients inside the Miner Auditorium and Joe Henderson Lab
- Assist with in the onsite audio load-in and load-out for performances and rentals at SFJAZZ, as well as SFJAZZ offsite performances at partner venues. This includes placing and patching monitors, front fills, microphones, backline and other stage elements
- Interface with video technicians and monitor audio levels and quality being sent to video record and/or live stream broadcast
- Assist with on-site supervision and training of additional audio technicians
- Collaborate with the Lead Audio Engineer, Technical Director and Director of Production on house audio system maintenance, as needed
- Assist Rentals Manager and Technical Director in the assessment of audio requirements for rental events and aid in the integration of external equipment and vendor workflow within the building, as needed
- Oversee the post-production workflow of audio deliverables for SFJAZZ’s Digital program, including reviewing and selecting performance or interview audio, mixing and mastering select audio and collaborating with video editors to establish broadcast standards for audio
- When there is a need, this individual may receive requests to cover audio shifts, with minimal notice, at the SFJAZZ Center due to last minute staffing needs
- Other duties as assigned

- Avid Venue Profile
- Avid Venue SC-48
- ClearCom Freespeak II
Expert proficiency in the following software:
- AVID Pro Tools
- Mac OS
- Meyer Sound Galileo
- Meyer Sound Compass
- Shure Wireless Workbench
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive experience mixing FOH and Monitors in a live performance environment
- Moderate experience mixing and mastering for broadcast
- Must be able to take direction and closely collaborate with the Executive Artistic Director
- Possess excellent organizational and time-management skills and be able to meet crucial deadlines
