Donor Research and Grants Coordinator
The Donor Research and Grants Coordinator supports the Institutional and Individual Giving teams by working towards the strategic goals of the entire Development department. As an integral member of a 14-person department, this person provides high-level background research, demographic analysis and capacity evaluations, and executes a wide range of development research activities to support SFJAZZ’s fundraising programs. Through prospect identification, research and management, data acquisition and analysis, and donor and institutional profile creation, the Donor Research and Grants Coordinator deepens SFJAZZ’s knowledge of its donors and prospects through the systematic identification of potential prospects from bulk screenings and current patron data.
The Donor Research and Grants Coordinator will research, prepare, and provide biographical and financial profiles and reports on potential and identified individuals, foundations, and corporations. This person plays a critical role in developing SFJAZZ’s donor pipeline as well as maintaining systems for prospect, portfolio, and proposal management.
The successful applicant will be an outstanding communicator with demonstrated excellent writing skills and a command of research and database tools. With an energetic drive, professional curiosity, and attention to detail, the Donor Research and Grants Coordinator will have close interaction with the fundraising team in a fast-paced environment.
Donor Research: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform research and prepare briefs and profiles on individuals, corporations, and foundations to support SFJAZZ’s Development team.
- Conduct financial and biographical research on prospective donors, utilizing a variety of methods and tools, from wealth indicators, business activities, personal and professional connections, and philanthropic activity.
- Update and maintain donor and prospect profiles and database records on a regular basis, including biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
- Independently and proactively identify new donor prospects.
- Work in partnership with the Director to oversee prospect and new board member identification.
- Develop local and national prospect lists and generate profiles in support of various campaigns, projects, events, and meetings.
- Serve as Prospect Research liaison with Major Gift Officers and participate in portfolio reviews and prospect management strategy discussions.
- Serve as a resource for Major Gift Officers and SFJAZZ leadership and take on special projects as they arise.
Grants: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the planning and preparation of lower level grant proposals.
- Prepare and compile all components of each grant submission, ensuring that the proposal is formatted, packaged, and submitted.
- Assist as appropriate in the design, formatting and preparation of grant documentation.
- Assist in identifying upcoming grant opportunities, both from foundations and corporate donors.
- Maintain institutional entries by recording and tracking grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information; create and distribute standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses, as required.
- Research guidelines for prospective grants.
- Monitor and coordinate the administration of post-award grants to ensure that budgeting and administrative policies, and procedures are being followed.
Knowledge, Education and Experience
- 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Extremely detailed and process oriented, with the capacity to see the bigger picture and make connections among projects and people.
- Ability to synthesize large quantities of data into a user-friendly and concise format.
- Proficiency working with databases, prospect research tools, and internet-based research.
- Understanding of fundraising best practices and procedures.
- Experience with keeping a positive attitude while in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to new teams well.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Discretion when dealing with confidential and personal information.
- Commitment to producing work of exceptional quality and dedication to superior customer service with an emphasis on relationship building.

Peferred Qualifications/Desirable Experience:
- Extensive experience with Tessitura database or similar CRM in a nonprofit environment.
- Technical fluency with Google Suites, Asana, Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and a donor wealth screening software.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time in front of a computer terminal and extensive use of a keyboard.
- Working knowledge of prospect research and fundraising.
- Ability to synthesize a high volume of information from a variety of sources and identify philanthropic patterns, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations.
- Knowledge of capacity rating systems .
- Experience using information databases and search techniques related to prospect research.
The pay range for this position is $69k - $72k annually with full benefits.
