Artistic Internship
Overview
The SFJAZZ is looking for a passionate individual to work in our Artistic department forSummer 2023. This Internship program is open to all individuals that are enrolled in either an educational or vocational program and want to gain hands on experience in an Arts Non-Profit Organization.
The Summer Internship program will run from May to August 2023, based on the Intern’s availability. The allocated hours are approximately 20 per week. This program is hands on and in office presence is required.
Project Responsibilities: Cataloging SFJAZZ Collective Sheet Music
- Reviewing and organizing music archives from the band's 20-year history
- Comparing various drafts of parts to determine accuracy and importance of player's notes
- Scanning and filing final parts
- Coordinating the cataloging of and identifying sound and video files with SFJAZZ's Digital team
- Organization responsibilities
- Organizing tour history documents
- Reviewing contracts and summarizing licensing rights
- Proofing and editing of website copy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Strong music reading skills: ability to follow a score and compare to recordings, transpose, and knowledge of jazz instrumentation and shorthand.
- Organized, with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Computer proficient - Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, MS Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Previous music librarian experience and/or familiarity with notation software (Sibelius and Finale) a plus
- Knowledge of publishing and licensing a plus
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $17 per hour, with approximately 20 hours per week.

The pre-pandemic budget for the organization was over $19 million; 60% derived from ticket sales.
