Video Engineer
OVERVIEW
The SFJAZZ Video Engineer provides video capture and recording support for SFJAZZ Artistic and Education departments under the direction of the Executive Artistic Director and Digital Projects Manager.
The Video Engineer operates video switching equipment and robotic or static cameras to capture performances at the SFJAZZ Center. This role requires the individual be familiar with the entire lifecycle of video workflow from pre-production through post-production and maintain a strong understanding of audio signal workflows and its integration into recorded and streamed video. The ideal candidate should be highly proficient in broadcast quality standards and identifying and resolving operational errors and troubleshooting. This position is also responsible for providing post-production editing support for SFJAZZ Digital Projects.
It is essential that this candidate have excellent time-management skills and be able to meet crucial deadlines.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Serves as Video Director for SFJAZZ Artistic, Education and Development day time and evening performances
- Directs and operates production video switcher, robotic & static cameras as well as graphics
- Interfaces with live and recording audio engineer(s) to monitor levels and quality of audio to program record and/or stream
- Collaborates with Lighting Designer to establish lighting looks for camera and broadcast
- Operates and configures Hiperwall software and feeds IMAG to the Hiperwall displays
- Assists with on-site supervision of additional video technicians for performances, as needed
- Manage the post-production workflow of video deliverables for SFJAZZ’s Digital program, including reviewing and selecting performance or interview footage, editing footage based on set list or guidance from the Artistic team, collaborating with audio engineers to obtain mastered audio and integrating assets into the full program
- Streams select performances on SFJAZZ platforms (Vimeo, YouTube Live, Facebook, etc), as needed
- Support the Video Systems Technician position on performances and events, as needed
- Takes lead on troubleshooting streaming tech issues with SFJAZZ video and audio third-party partners
- Collaborates with SFJAZZ Artistic to develop and shape new video products
- Other duties as assigned

- For.A HVS-490 Broadcast switcher
- HD-SDI, CAT6, Single Mode and Multi Mode Fiber patching infrastructure
- Panasonic AW-HE Series PTZ cameras
- Panasonic RP150 Robotic controller
- Tascam Model 24 audio console
- Teradeck Cube 600 Encoders
Expert proficiency in the following software:
- Adobe Media Encoder
- Adobe Premier Pro CC
- Adobe After Effects
- Facebook Live
- Restream
- Frame.IO
- Youtube Live
- Vimeo OTT
- JW Player
Additional qualifications:
- Extensive experience video directing and operating cameras in live performance and corporate event environments
- Skilled editor with experience creating broadcast quality content utilizing video, audio, graphics, lower thirds images and text elements
- An eye for reviewing footage and selecting exciting segements from pre-recorded video content from performances and interviews
- Must be able to take direction and closely collaborate with the Executive Artistic Director and Digital Projects Manager
The pay range for this postion is $41/hr - $44/hr, depending on the experience.
