Kronos Quartet

 Tonight on Fridays Live, SFJAZZ presents San Francisco’s own Kronos Quartet, a visionary ensemble that has redefined the possibilities of string music for over four decades. The broadcast will feature the final program of this year’s Festival, which celebrates Kronos Fifty for the Future, a collection of 50 new Kronos-commissioned pieces by composers from around the world, including Rhiannon Giddens, Philip Glass, Zakir Hussain, Angélique Kidjo, Tanya Tagaq, Henry Threadgill, and Wu Man. The night will also feature two exceptional guest ensembles: New York’s Grammy-winning Attacca Quartet and SF’s own innovative Friction Quartet.

Featuring compositions by Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, Philip Glass, Zakir Hussain, Susie Ibarra, Aleksander Kościów, Sky Macklay, Angélica Negrón, Peni Candra Rini, Charlton Singleton, Stephan Thelen.

The final program of this year’s Festival completes the survey of the eclectic Kronos Fifty for the Future repertoire with works by composers from India, Indonesia, Mali, Poland, Switzerland, and the United States (including Puerto Rico).

Kronos takes the stage and also welcomes two exceptional guest ensembles: New York’s Grammy-winning Attacca Quartet and, making their third appearance in this festival, SF’s own innovative Friction Quartet.
