In honor of Bobby Hutcherson's birthday, January 27, SFJAZZ presents another Jazz Minute – a brief look at important figures, movements, and moments in jazz history and the present day, in both the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world.     

In this episode narrated by Brian Blade, we celebrate vibraphone icon Bobby Hutcherson. The most accomplished vibraphonist and composer to emerge in the latter half of the 20th Century, Bobby Hutcherson redefined the role of the instrument in modern jazz, bringing new levels of technical mastery and harmonic sophistication to every recording and performance.
