Petra Haden & Jesse Harris

Vocalist and violinst Petra Haden knows her way around the world of jazz, but she’s never confined her boundless imagination. She recently collaborated with guitarist Bill Frisell on his shimmering album of film and TV songs When You Wish Upon a Star (OKeh), a project that built on their ravishing 2005 duo project Petra Haden and Bill Frisell (Songline/Tonefield). But in many circles she’s best known for her wildly imaginative solo projects using only her multi-tracked vocals to recreate The Who Sell Out and classic film themes. On her latest album, Seemed Like a Good Idea (Sunnyside), she teams up with producer, guitarist, vocalist and composer Jesse Harris, one of the 21st Century’s top songwriters. Indelibly linked to Norah Jones as the tunesmith responsible for her monster 2002 hit “Don’t Know Why,” he’s collaborated with many of the era’s most striking singers, including Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot, and Lizz Wright. Like Petra, the daughter of bass legend Charlie Haden and sibling of three other renown musicians, Harris draws seamlessly on jazz and pop, country and folk music.
