Magos & Limón: Dawn

Magos Herrera, the most acclaimed jazz vocalist to emerge from Latin America, joins forces with eminent Spanish composer, guitarist and producer Javier Limón in a fresh new collaboration, entitled DAWN. Born in Mexico City and now based in New York, Herrera recorded five albums as a solo artist before emigrating to the U.S. in 1998. Within a year of her move to the States, she released the GRAMMY-nominated session Distancia, co-produced by saxophonist Tim Ries and featuring Aaron Goldberg on piano and guitarist Lionel Loueke. Herrera further established her status as a major new jazz voice with the release of 2011’s Mexico Azul, a tribute to the golden age of Mexican composers in the 1930s and 1940s with performances by bassist John Patitucci and pianist Luis Perdomo. Madrid-born Javier Limón is an eight-time GRAMMY- winning producer, performer and composer whose credits include work with Paco de Lucía, Wynton Marsalis, Caetano Veloso, Alicia Keys, Joe Lovano, Chucho Valdés, Buika and Anoushka Shankar, among others. He has composed soundtracks for the films of David Treuba and Pedro Almodovar and is a dedicated educator, teaching composition and flamenco guitar and Boston’s esteemed Berklee College of Music. Herrera and Limón’s collaboration is an intimate journey through the music of Mongo Santamaria, Miles Davis, Jobim, and fresh compositions – a delicate yet fiery dance of flamenco heat and cool jazz.
