In celebration of African-American Heritage Month SFJAZZ Education hosted its first ever School Day Concert on February 11, 2016! We welcomed over 500 students from over 6 schools to our Miner Auditorium for a highly interactive performance by Terrence Brewer’s Quintet featuring vocalist Naima Shalhoub. This program aims to further enhance our relationships with our partner schools, and continue our work in developing and nurturing the future jazz audience.
Participating students and teachers:
Witnessed call and response, improvisation, and the blues.
Explored how the African Diaspora has shaped our musical landscape.
Learned how jazz is alive, relevant, and continuing to grow today!
This was the first of many School Day Concerts SFJAZZ will host. If you would like to coordinate a field trip for your school group or wish to receive information about future events please submit this short form. SFJAZZ Education staff will respond to your request.
