GIANT STEPS
MAKE YOUR STAND AT SFJAZZ

April 11, 2017 | by Don Derheim

I’ve witnessed the joy, pride and affirmation that happens when a jazz supporter sees their name on the wall of the SFJAZZ Center as part of the Giant Steps campaign.

As our milestone Season 5 heads to conclusion on June 30, 2017 the opportunity to join as a Giant Steps member heads to a close too. The names of all Giant Steps contributors will be composed to spell out SFJAZZ on the beautiful glass wall of the Center in San Francisco.

The jazz master John Coltrane said, when describing his motivations for his iconic and beautiful Giant Steps album, “I want to be the force which is truly for good.” The tone of that sentiment rings true today in the jazz community and with conviction at SFJAZZ.

As jazz grows in the San Francisco Bay Area, Giant Steps members help bring more groundbreaking collaborations and cultural transformations to SFJAZZ stages — and beyond the walls. With a three year membership starting at $300, Giant Steps Members enjoy many benefits, support pathways to musicianship through the SFJAZZ educations programs and see their names inscribed on the wall of the Center.

The SFJAZZ Giant Steps FAQ is here and on the front of the SFJAZZ Center and within the halls, let’s show the world that jazz and the living legacies of musicians like John Coltrane and others remain vital.
