SAT, JUL 8 | Sérgio Mendes
SAT, JULY 8 at 7:30 PM
Sérgio Mendes is a legend of Brazilian music and one of the prime architects of the bossa nova revolution of the 1960s. Mendés first made an impact in collaboration with Antônio Carlos Jobim and Cannonball Adderley, and came to international stardom with his iconic band Brasil ’66. “The man who put go-go boots on Brazilian music and brought it to the world” (Billboard), Mendes jettisoned thoughts of a classical career when the distinctive jazz-meets-samba fusion called bossa nova began to evolve in the clubs of Rio in the late 50s.

SAT, JUL 22 | ANDREW BIRD
SAT, JULY 22 at 7:30 PM
Classically inspired, violin-wielding songwriter Andrew Bird comes to Frost Amphitheater with his new record, Inside Problems, in tow. In the words of Esquire, "He is the only performer who has lit up both Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo with a combination of vocals, violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling … he uses centuries-old instrumentation to give depth and soul to folk rock." Through the power of looping, he creates a tangled and orchestral sound with just a few on-stage elements.
