Called “one of the outstanding singers of our time” by The Wall Street Journal, GRAMMY-winning vocalist Catherine Russell brings music from her illustrious career, including songs from her most recent Dot Time Records release, Send For Me.
Born with a musical pedigree, Russell’s path was clear as the daughter of Panamanian pianist, composer and arranger Luis Russell, the longtime collaborator and musical director for Louis Armstrong, and bassist/vocalist Carline Ray, known for her work with International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Ruth Brown and Mary Lou Williams.
Over her momentous career, Russell has recorded and shared the stage with artists including David Bowie, Steely Dan, Michael Feinstein, Paul Simon and Rosanne Cash, recorded eight magical albums as a leader, and won a GRAMMY for her contribution to the soundtrack for the smash HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
She appeared onscreen and on the soundtrack to Bolden, director Dan Pritzker’s 2019 biopic about cornetist and jazz pioneer Buddy Bolden, and most recently collaborated with bandleader and trumpeter Steven Bernstein, recording the 2022 album Good Time Music with his Millennial Territory Orchestra.
With Send For Me, Russell explores a baker’s dozen songs, both standards and hidden gems, that balance torchy romance with a deep sense of swing.
