“One of New York’s most interesting and unique bands” (New York Music Daily), House of Waters is a unique musical ensemble known for its eclectic fusion of global sounds and innovative use of traditional instruments who have gained fame as part of the GroundUP family of artists signed to Snarky Puppy mastermind Michael League’s influential label.
The band is primarily recognized for its use of the hammered dulcimer, played by the masterful Max ZT, and six-string bassist Moto Fukushima. Together, they blend elements of jazz, world music, and progressive rock, creating a sound that defies easy categorization.
Their music draws from a variety of cultural influences, including African, Indian, and Middle Eastern traditions, combined with modern jazz improvisation and intricate rhythmic structures. House of Waters has captivated audiences around the world with their dynamic live performances, characterized by virtuosic musicianship and a deep sense of musical adventure.
The band's 2016 self-titled album received critical acclaim for its originality and emotional depth, and the band continues to push the boundaries of contemporary instrumental music, offering listeners a rich tapestry of sounds that is both innovative and deeply rooted in diverse musical traditions. Their newest album, On Becoming, features guests Antonio Sanchez on drums and guitarist Mike Stern, and received a GRAMMY nomination.
