Celebrating 50 years of music together, the sublime partnership of guitarist Lee Ritenour and pianist Dave Grusin is among the most fruitful and enduring in contemporary jazz. They make their Miner Auditorium debut with music spanning their careers including songs from their entrancing 2024 Candid Records release, Brasil

Known widely as “Captain Fingers,” a moniker he earned for his remarkable dexterity and musicianship, the GRAMMY-winning Ritenour has released 35 albums and is a member of the fusion supergroup Fourplay. As a sideman, he has contributed to the music of Patti Austin, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, and Dizzy Gillespie, among dozens of others.

The Oscar and GRAMMY-winning Grusin is a multifaceted composer, pianist, arranger, and producer who has issued over 40 albums and composed soundtracks to Three Days of the Condor, Tootsie, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and On Golden Pond, to name a few.

Their co-led 1985 GRAMMY-winning release Harlequin for Grusin’s GRP label was a landmark of 1980s fusion that seamlessly blended modern jazz and Brazilian rhythms, and the pair reunited for 2000’s Two Worlds and 2008’s Amparo, both for the Decca imprint.

A spiritual follow-up to Harlequin, Brasil was recorded in Sao Paolo and again steeps the two virtuoso artists in the country’s tropical grooves with a lineup of master Brazilian musicians. Allmusic.com calls the album “one the more compelling intersections of music and culture thus far in the 21st century.”
