The remarkable Bay Area vocalist Marina Crouse returns for her second Hotplate tribute performance after her sold-out February 2024 salute to Latin pop legend Eydie Gormé with the timeless songs from jazz royalty Ernestine Anderson’s 1980 Concord Jazz masterpiece Never Make Your Move Too Soon.
Over her 60-year career, Anderson recorded over 30 albums, received four GRAMMY nominations, and worked with artists ranging from Johnny Otis to Lionel Hampton. She moved to London in the 60s when rock became the predominant popular music but enjoyed a much-deserved career resurgence after a memorable 1976 performance at the Concord Jazz Festival in the Bay Area.
Recorded in San Francisco. 1980’s Never Make Your Move Too Soon was a career highpoint for Anderson, with a Stix Hooper-penned title track that became her theme song and a program of finely rendered gems including “Old Folks,” “As Long as I Live,” and “My Shining Hour.” The album features a sterling backing band including pianist Monty Alexander, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Frank Gant.
With her soaring, soulful voice, Marina Crouse makes the music of Ernestine Anderson her own.
