"Stanley Clarke is an icon who has revolutionized bass playing. He opened up my brain to an electric form of jazz while I was in school."

ABOUT THIS SHOW
2022 NEA Jazz Master Stanley Clarke turns up the heat for his third night of residency, presenting a true summit meeting of bass mastery as he joins forces with fellow legend Marcus Miller for an incendiary night of four-string virtuosity, accompanied by a supercharged band.

The five-time GRAMMY winning Clarke worked with the likes of Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Curtis Fuller, Joe Henderson, and Pharoah Sanders before achieving worldwide fame as a pioneer of jazz fusion with Chick Corea and Return to Forever, and his subsequent career as a bandleader.

Miller, a two-time GRAMMY-winning producer, arranger, keyboardist, bass clarinetist, and film composer, was instrumental to Miles Davis’ resurgence in the 1980s. He has collaborated with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and McCoy Tyner to Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, and Luther Vandross, and has been heard on well over 500 sessions, while issuing 18 multifaceted albums as a leader.

The two icons worked together over a decade ago, recording and touring with Victor Wooten as the supergroup SMV, and they meet again for an exploration of the melodic and foundational role of the bass that has rarely been heard before.
