The San Francisco Jazz Festival comes to a funky, rollicking close with this performance by the hard-hitting Oakland-based soul and R&B crew Sal’s Greenhouse, led by the dynamic vocalist and baritone saxophonist Sally Green.
Formed a decade ago, the band channels the proud legacy of East Bay funk that includes Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, Sly Stone, and Tower of Power while exploring new musical territory that is uniquely their own.
The band perfected their supercharged live show through performances with the likes of Nikka Costa, Orgōne, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk, and have released a procession of singles, EPs, and full-length albums including their latest five-track EP Blooms for Color Red Records — a label started by Eddie Roberts, founder and guitarist for British funk stars The New Mastersounds.
The EP, produced by Justin Stanley (Prince, Beck, Paul McCartney), brings a fresh approach to the band’s sound, incorporating flavors of the soul and disco of the late 1970s.

Led by singer Sally Green with some crackerjack musicians, the group has the feel of the East Coast disco sounds of the late 70s, with just a touch of rock
