"A singer with a strong, lustrous tone and an amiably regal presence onstage" (The New York Times), Alicia Olatuja has been held up by no less than Dianne Reeves as one of the finest young singers on the scene today. The St. Louis native was reared on gospel, soul and jazz and earned a Masters in classical voice and opera at Manhattan School of Music. She first gained national attention as a featured soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir at Barack Obama’s 2013 presidential inauguration ceremony. But in the past two years she’s created a powerful buzz in jazz circles through her work with GRAMMY Award-winning pianist/arranger Billy Childs, who’s featured her alongside vocalist Becca Stevens on the extended tour of Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro.

She’s also entranced legendary Hammond B-3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, performing with him at high profile events like the Charlie Parker Festival and the BRIC JazzFest. Increasingly visible as a bandleader in her own right, Olatuja led three increasingly accomplished sessions and returns with music from her new project celebrating women composers, Intuition: Songs From the Minds of Women, featuring original compositions, the work of her contemporaries, and timeless songs by legends including Joni Mitchell and Violeta Parra.

Olatuja possesses a special instrument: a full-bodied tone, precise pitch and personal engagement at the lowest whisper or highest wail.
