Vocalist/storyteller Pamela Rose returns for our final class in this series to celebrate popular women songwriters from 1920 to today. From the great Blueswomen to pop and jazz icons, Rose and her Wild Women of Song ensemble - Kristen Strom (sax), Tammy Hall (piano), Ruth Davies (bass), Daria Johnson (drums) - will highlight heroine hitmakers such as Bessie Smith, Dorothy Fields, Ida Cox, Peggy Lee, Alberta Hunter, Valerie Simpson (Ashford & Simpson) Carole King, and many others. As always with Pamela Rose’s shows, be prepared for an educational and musically satisfying journey, peppered with audience sing-alongs.
Rebeca Mauleón, instructor
The contributions of women to the jazz landscape are far-reaching, from the blues, folk music, and the Great American Songbook, through the swing and bebop eras, and beyond.
