“Banjo picker, singer, and purveyor of Creole Culture” (NPR), New Orleans native Don Vappie celebrates the 300th anniversary of his hometown with music from his new trio album. Leader of Crescent City’s premier jazz orchestra, the Creole Jazz Serenaders, Vappie is a specialist in early jazz from the 20s through the Swing Era of the 30s and 40s, and is a regular collaborator with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

He’s recorded eight superb albums as a solo artist and with the Creole Jazz Serenaders, and was the subject of PBS’s post-Katrina documentary film, American Creole: New Orleans Reunion, which traced the rebuilding of New Orleans culture and Vappie’s life and career in the wake of the devastating hurricane. Over his four-decade career, Vappie has shared the stage with artists including Peggy Lee, Terence Blanchard, Eric Clapton, Bette Midler, and Diana Krall, among others.
